Collaborating with kids!

It will be cool for the kids to see good and bad composition side by side
My sister volunteers as an art teacher at her son's school. She and I were batting ideas around for a lesson, and we came up with a fairly simple way to introduce them to poster design: using simple materials, they each made a few letters for the posters to the left. I am putting them together for my sister, each kid will have a poster of their letters.

Still futzing with the compostions, but I LOVE the googly eyes! I have to do some clean up on the images, but it will be cool to give the kids an idea of how something is designed and printed.

Banner project building steam!

You may have noticed that the banners are changing with some frequency these days. I am using them as a warm-up for the day: I give myself 20 minutes and I try to come up with something interesting. Here is the link to the gallery of all the previous banners. You can also find it by going to the left-hand sidebar and clicking on Ongoing Projects.

Design_pilates co-op brooklyn website

pcb_1.jpg

I just finished a rebuild of the site for a great Pilates studio I go to every week, pilates co-op brooklyn! If you live in the area, this is really the best and most affordable place you can go.

I am moving completely to CSS, so forgive any rough text styling... In fact, if you go there and see a glitch, let me know! I am rewriting all the styles to be way way more Explorer-6-friendly this weekend.

The Ardor Arbiter Starter Kit

I may be spoiling the surprise a bit for those of you who have not gotten your valentine yet, but here it is:

The Monstress Certified Ardor Arbiter Starter Kit
.
Medium: Silkscreen, Xerography
Edition: 325

I've spotted 2 errors so far, sorry about that. I was a bit tired. I have fixed them on the downloadables, so they are now marks of authenticity of the first edition.

I will be mailing the international and out-of-state ones today and tomorrow and will set up 2 NYC pick-ups, one for Brooklyn, one for Manhattan. I am also trying to figure out the best way to organize and post the other valentines I have made, and all the ones sweet people have given to me.

Download pdfs of this valentine!

Weekend of Printmaking

Snarky? Or critique of exploitative ad?

Driving up to Rosendale this Saturday, I spotted this little bit of ID. At first, I thought it was a snarky little comment on the part of the ID-er, but the more I mulled it over, the more I liked the gesture. The original ad was all about making this little guy into a  shock-and-guilt campaign. I choose to believe the person who took action and edited it was providing some relief, albeit symbolic.

Rock on with your smile-giving self.

Cait the Amazing Silkscreen Intern
Then I got to Rosendale, home of the Women's Studio Workshop. If you recall, I designed a poster for them and yesterday, I got to print it! Luckily, I was not alone: Cait the Super Printer had prepared the 2 screens and was just amazing. She pulled the orange, I pulled the purple and between us we lost all of 4 prints. That's out of 130 (or maybe 140, but either way, it is an awesome average) total. They looked great, and I am really proud to have been able to do this for a place so near and dear to my heart. Hooray!
