Saw this yesterday, rushing off to a haircut that I will now be getting today. Nice use of a plastic storage bin.

A rather nice Mary in a natty shack
Okay, after all the rigamarole of the holiday, I am back. I was walking Walter around a bit in the heat yesterday and saw this lovely little Virgin Mary shed. It belongs in the Expressions of Faith pile of ID, I do believe. The statue has been painted over so many times she looks like shes made of chalk, and the necklace was obviously draped over her shoulders for the winter holidays.

And then I saw this lovely aperitif of a paste up.
I mean, jeez louise... You big, smart show off! These are great. Once I got on the train, I got to thinking of how subversion these days so often means a direct person-to-person transmission via mass media. Maybe that isn't clear... It's as if the main way to rebel is to use ads and public spaces to leave a mark that you were actually there, as opposed to just obeying the ads, consuming, and then going the hell home.
Forgot to say: this is the C and E platform on 8th Ave.

An excellent cart / sales counter!

Poor little scooter, help together with tape and a prayer...
Walking to the subway, I spotted 2 great examples of I.D.:
The cart was built by this guy who was not terribly pleased with me for taking pictures--he sells counterfeit jeans and needs to be able to pick up and run at a moment's notice.
The delivery scooter was made mostly of rotted black duct tape, but still had a certain style I admired.

Had a fender bender? Consider clothesline wire!
I have been tracking Impromptu Design for over a year, and this weekend, I was invited to turn it into a piece for the Mend show at Proteus Gowanus, coming this fall. In the spirit of full disclosure, I actually made their interim site and am rebuilding the whole thing as a Wordpress extravaganza as I type this. But in all the time I have worked with them, I have only been able to exhibit old work, and now, I can submit a huge chunk of new work! I have made progress!
Okay, the feelings of slight despair cited in the last entry are dispelling. No one can bring you down when you are making.
